May 28, 2009 - The Medical Foundation, a Division of Health Resources in Action, organized the Scientific Poster Session and Dinner for the Smith Family Awards Program for Excellence in Biomedical Research on May 19, 2009. Now in its 18th year, the program has funded 109 scientists for a total investment of $16.6 million. Thirty award recipients presented posters at the May meeting and Mr. Richard Smith, Co-Chair of the Smith Family Foundation, awarded a $65,000 prize to Amy Wagers, Ph.D. of Joslin Diabetes Center for her outstanding research contributions to stem cell biology.

The Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation has been a major funder in the Greater Boston Community for almost 40 years. In addition to supporting groundbreaking medical research and Boston's healthcare institutions, the Foundation assists nonprofit organizations making significant contributions in the areas of youth development, poverty alleviation and cultural enrichment.
