Improving Access to Nutritious Foods the Focus of New HRiA Contract

July 9, 2009 - HRiA will be assisting in the development of a strategic plan centered on improving access to healthy foods in Dorchester, a low-income Boston neighborhood. The Bowdoin Street Health Center contracted with HRiA's Public Health Policy and Strategy Center for the work.

The plan will focus on bolstering a local neighborhood farmer's market, promoting healthy foods in local bodegas and markets, increasing the number of nutritious menu items in sit-down and take-out restaurants, and encouraging the use of food coupons for the purchase of healthy food. Set to be finalized in late September 2009, the plan is being financed by the Boston Public Health Commission's Center for Health Equity and Social Justice.
