Talking with FDA Commissioner at HRA Meeting

September 28, 2009 - Sally McNagny, MD, MPH of The Medical Foundation, a division of HRiA, co-chaired the planning committee for the Health Research Alliance (HRA) meeting at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Washington, D.C.  HRA is a membership organization of nonprofit, non-governmental funders of medical research and training. Collectively, members provide nearly $1.5 billion in research and training awards each year to more than 5,000 investigators in the United States and abroad.

The September meeting featured FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, M.D., Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Francis Collins, Ph.D.,  and Director of the Science and Policy Programs Albert Teich, PhD,  at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Topics included accelerating drug discovery and development, future directions of the NIH, update on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and an overview of comparative effectiveness research.
